“It’s not easy for someone to ask for help and it’s not easy for someone to say ‘I can’t feed myself’.” Those are the words of one worker at a food bank in Essex.

She sees individuals, mothers and fathers walk in every day who are in a desperate situation. With the rise of awareness of people’s living situations from films like I, Daniel Blake , and austerity being discussed regularly in parliament, we all know what a foodbank is now.

For some, it is a vital resource during one of the most difficult times in a person’s life, and for others, it can be what gets them through that week when they are at their lowest.

The Colchester foodbank is thriving in terms of rising referrals and the numbers of people they are seeing in need of a food parcel.
